Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church
A Call for a High School Pastor
Objective: To locate our fellow servant, whom God has called to join our team ministry that will love and serve His high school life-stage sheep and train them to be faithful followers and disciplers of others for the purpose of loving the Lord and our neighbors as ourselves
Description:
Good Shepherd High School Ministry (Rowland Heights, CA) is prayerfully seeking a Pastor with the heart of Jesus Christ to love, lead, and disciple our students with the Word, Sacraments, Prayer, Service (ministry), and Community (discipleship). Preach, teach, counsel and live the Gospel. (To see our unified ministry direction, please see “Giving Up Gimmicks: Reclaiming Youth Ministry From an Entertainment Culture” by Brian H. Cosby; “Family-Based Youth Ministry” AND “Partnering with Parents in Youth Ministry” AND “Sustainable Youth Ministry” all by Mike DeVries; “Shepherding a Child’s Heart” by Tedd Tripp).
GSHSM exists under the Education Department of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church (Approx. 1400, est. 1975) and consists of about 55 (9th-12th) weekly students and a staff of volunteers. Our current denominational affiliation is PCUSA, but we are in the process of transferring to E.C.O. ( eco-pres.org/who-we-are/our-story/ ) We are committed to the Gospel and to the Great Commission of making disciples for Jesus Christ. We are continually reforming to be more Christ-like. It is a ministry that seeks to help young teenagers mature in their faith in Christ by word and deed, and to be ready for the challenges of post-modern institutions of higher education.
The High School Pastor must be someone who has a passion for God, a love for teenagers and their families, a heart to train and partner with the high school staff, and possess the ability to relate to them. Someone with a pastoral heart to see the students grow in their relationship with Christ. A Pastor who will love them enough to challenge them for Jesus ( therebelution.com/about ). A Shepherd always fervently pointing to Jesus through a balance of teaching Truth and practical Spirit-led application in Christian life is being prayed for and sought after.
Although the candidate will oversee the High School Ministry, they will understand and work in a team environment towards our goal of making each youth Jesus’ disciple. We believe that Jesus teaches us to accomplish ministry in "teams and pairs (Mark 6:7)." Candidate shall be responsible and accountable to the Church through the Education Pastor and ultimately to the Senior Pastor of the Church. Regular programs include Friday evening worship, Bible studies, and additional activities with the purposes of drawing closer to God. There are also Sunday worship and Bible studies and leading PTA meetings. Off-site activities include summer and winter retreats, leading and training for short term missions, revival meetings, confirmation classes, seminars etc.
Candidates seeking this position should be available to create relationships with youth and fellow staff, and possess a teachable heart with an attitude of continual growth and refining. We are also interested in someone who can disciple and shepherd both our Jr High & High School Praise Teams to not just play instruments, but lead our congregation into the proper worship of God. John 4:23. To also have technical (computer, multimedia, internet) skills, as there will need to be maintenance and continual updating of the High School Ministry’s website, would also be a tremendous plus (please refer to Jr. High’s website: www.gsjhm.weebly.com).
Although we know that Pastors may be here for a season of their lives, we are seeking a High School Pastor with some longer term goals. *Ideal (would be great) candidate is someone that believes God is calling you to High School Ministry and not just as a stepping stone to other ministries. We’re looking for someone who actually cares and desires to mentor this particular age group for Christ. Likewise, we will love you and include you into our church family to grow together in sanctification in the fullness of Christ.

We are unique as God has gifted us individually, but we are part of a team (SuperFriends) and family that is powerful as we combine together in Christ. We want you to LOVE what you do and to be a part of doing work that matters for ETERNITY. We are on a MISSION to change how ministry is typically done in isolated departments, and we're looking for other like-minded, high-quality people to join us. We are the unwritten stories yet to be told for God's Glory and Kingdom! The goal? Creating a team to raise godly disciples in Christ from birth to adulthood.
