8th Graders took some extra time off to spend Sunday and Monday down in Oceanside. Both meals were exceptionally special as the boys cooked up some burgers and tossed salad for the girls while the girls fried up some scrambled eggs and lil smokies for the boys for breakfast the next day. Evening activities included going through the book "How to Stay a Christian in High School" with groups paired up to present the 6 different chapters on white boards with a gallery walk through afterwards. Winter Program continued after a lock-in with an early morning service on Saturday followed by cereal with fruit and some oatmeal if requested. The morning session included catching up on Bible reading while students were sent individually and in pairs into the High School chapel to participate in Materialism Maze- an activity with 10 stations meant to encourage meditation on our viewpoints on our possessions, how we should be grateful for what we've been given, and our identity in Christ. The afternoon discussions were capped off with kimbap for lunch and some fun team-building games using the Toobeez and the magic "helium tube"... Group pictures were taken with commitment cards to stick with the values taught during the Winter Program! This year's Winter Program theme was Generation Change- another key topic in GSJHM's 3-year Winter Program cycle. Students watched and discussed video presentations by Dave Ramsey on God's plan for money management and giving. Extended hours in the evening on Friday allowed an off-campus trip to the ice rink for some broomballing followed by a retreat must- ramen at midnight! We had such an amazing time driving out to Santa Clarita to visit with our Teacher Diana who lives out there with her family and drives to worship with us at our church and teach our girls class EVERY SINGLE WEEK! We were blessed to catch up with her over Souplantation and a few rounds of bowling. Thank you to Teacher Diana for opening up her schedule for us to spend time with her and get to know her and her family more.
