One of the afternoon activities for the Winter Program was bowling at Round One in Puente Hills Mall. GSJHM-ers were split into teams and competed in 2 games. Everyone had fun bowling strikes, spares and gutters and after the bowling, there were free cards to try winning at the claw game. Thankfully, T.Joe won 2 GSJHM Teacher mascots- Espresso and Mocha (or Black and Pinto- whichever you prefer...) Everyone had a great time!

This weekend, GSJHM conducted their annual winter program- this year's 3 year cycle rotated back to Purity in Relationships. The bible studies focused on Managing our Feelings/Anger with a Christian Perspective (T.Steve/T.Barbara), Our Identity in Christ (T.Joe/T.Lizzy), Choosing/Being Good Friends (T.Barbara), Purity in Relationships (T.Seyoon/T.Sharon/T.Joe) and Choices for the Future (T.Lizzy). The classes aimed towards the 8th graders is to prepare them for the annual 8th grade Purity Ceremony conducted March 2nd, 2012. Junior High studied about the Fall of Jericho (Joshua 6:1-7) on Sunday, February 12th, 2012. To illustrate how crazy a concept it was to march around a city 7 times with trumpets and the ark of the covenant in utter silence and expect a fortified city to fall, the members of Junior High participated in a reenactment. The 'ark' was on fire to symbolize the presence of God amongst them. Joshua 6:1-7
1 Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None went out, and none came in. 2 And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor. 3 You shall march around the city, all the men of war going around the city once. Thus shall you do for six days. 4 Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. On the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5 And when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, then all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat,[a] and the people shall go up, everyone straight before him.” 6 So Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the Lord.” 7 And he said to the people, “Go forward. March around the city and let the armed men pass on before the ark of the Lord.” |
