Next morning, Jacob cooked us an awesome breakfast of lotsa bacon and eggs on toast (all pan-fried). The kids had QT from the BRC and began keeping a log of "Things to Do Better" to be discussed at the evaluation meeting later. T. Eric finally came, ate, and we all headed to Puddingstone lake for some physical endurance hiking on a day that was blazing and humid (we all got sunburned). We tried to walk around the lake, but we made it about 1/4 of the way. However we also learned that complaining doesn't do anything but make it harder for others. Some basics, that we are teaching:
Basic Training
1. If you open it, CLOSE IT! (Jacob was really working hard on this one to conserve AC)
2. If you turn it on, SHUT IT OFF!
3. If you unlock it, LOCK IT!
4. If you break it, FIX IT! (Eugene is working on this one since he broke the tent peg)
5. If you can’t fix it, CALL SOMEONE WHO CAN!
6. If you borrow it, RETURN IT!
7. If you use it, TAKE CARE OF IT!
8. If you make a mess, CLEAN IT UP!
9. If you move it, PUT IT BACK FROM WHERE YOU GOT IT!
10.If it belongs to someone else, GET PERMISSION TO USE IT!
11.If you don’t know how to operate it, DON’T USE IT!
12.If it doesn’t concern you, STAY OUT OF IT!
We got back to the van and drove to a picnic area. Along the way, we did some reconnaissance to look at future camp sites for more training. Angela Shin made hot dogs for us and there were some ducks following us around that wagged their tails like begging dogs (really strange). The kids also watched people catch bass off the lake pier (and T. Eric was jealous that he didn't bring his fishing pole).
We got back to church, started work on practicing tent pitching and T. Eric and Christopher Bae worked on putting our cabinet together. The kids took about 3 hours the first time, and then 20 minutes the second time. I'd say they made good improvement.
We took off for supplies at Walmart for retreat.
We then watched some Band of Brothers to learn the concept of loyalty and sacrifice. Sabrina Park made us s'mores while we watched. For dinner Jasmine Koo prepared some tasty, good 'ol Shin Ramen in a cup. Just add water! *grin*
After dinner, T. Eric and Christopher put the Westminister Shorter Catechisms on the wall. The kids also reinforced the pegs for the collapsible cafe tables with duct tape. Parents came by to pick up their NCO trainees and brought us cake and coffee.
All in all, a very excellent time. Next training: be ready for amphibious landing at Seal Beach!
