After the planning meeting for this year's Summer Retreat 2009, the teachers met up at Jocelyn Park's house for great food and conversation and some chess games (in which TV pretty much beat whoever he played- note: I have no idea how the game with T. Eric went though)... T. Barbara and T. Steve really took care of us well and we were able to celebrate Deacon Park's (May), PC's, T. Danny's and T. Steve's birthdays with a big fruit-cream cake! Blessings to the Park Family for their hospitality and generosity!
We were happy with the big turn out for the 6th graders: 6 girls (Angela, Reina, Aimee, Sabrina, Jasmine & Rachel) & 6 boys (Taesub, Hoony, David, Eugene, Justin & Jacob)- T. Eric, T. Sharon & T. Danny had their hands full with all the rides that everyone wanted to go on... we started with La Revolucion... not a great decision though T. Danny, T. Sharon & David sat it out with nachos... then Jaguar and lunch at McDonalds'. After lunch, X-celerator, Supreme Scream, Silver Bullet and many rides of Wave Rider. The 6th graders were very very gung-ho about trying pretty much every ride and the only complaint was that we ran out of time! Finally, dinner at Lee's Sandwiches near church topped off a great day at the park! The 7th grade girls joined the 6th grade classes to Knott's for their annual trip this year. Though we met up to enter the park together, the 7th graders spent their time with Teacher Ann and Teacher Vince going on such rides like Roaring Rapids and Supreme Scream. Everyone met up at McDonald's for lunch, rest, recuperation and lots and lots of fries... The idea for F3 started when a 6th grade class' homework assignment was to complete a survey and encourage discussion between students and parents. After the project was completed, it was found that a fair number of students did not have a good time set aside to talk to their parents on a regular basis. Thus F3 was born- an evening dedicated to communication and 'getting-to-know-you'. Next up, the 7th and 8th graders. While the 6th graders enjoyed themselves at Knott's Berry Farm, the 7th and 8th graders were given the opportunity to spend time learning more about their parents and vice versa. This was a much larger group and discussions were flowing out of every corner of the Senior High Chapel (kindly loaned out by Pastor David and the high school students)... again an excellent evening of family sharing. Thank you for making this (hopefully annual) event a blessing to all!
The teachers have greatly appreciated and enjoyed spending time with some Junior High families after our monthly Teachers' Meetings. We've been blessed to be invited to eat and have fellowship this last March with the Noh Family and in April with the Kang family and needless to say, we had a blast- playing Guitar Hero and helping Joyce with her "Tiger" homework and watching the basketball game with the Kangs. We've been fed very very well and have been even more pleased with the conversations... thank you so much to the families who have hosted us so far (and who we have not had the pleasure of taking a picture with)... we're looking foward to continuing our monthly visitations and getting to know you guys better!!!! Make sure you bring the perm slips on Saturday.
